[Phone Launch] Gionee launches its mid-range A1 Lite in India

Gionee has announced the availability of A1 Lite in India. The latest smartphone in the company’s A1 series features a 20 MP selfie camera and a 4,000 mAh battery.

In line with the company’s latest fascination with selfies, the A1 Lite features a 20 MP front camera along with a customized selfie flash to spread light onto faces more evenly and softly. Gionee also uses a facial enhancement algorithm that automatically detects a user’s face and applies custom beauty settings.

The phone is available in two color variants – Gold and Black – the Gionee A1 Lite will be available across all retail stores in India at a price of INR 14,999 ($234) starting August 10.

Gionee is also offering 2 years extended warranty on the A1 Lite, and has a couple of partner offers. New or existing Airtel Customers who purchase A1 Lite will get additional 10 GB data per month for 6 months on any data recharge of 1GB and above. Also, every purchase of Gionee A1 Lite will be accompanied with 2 Paytm cashback voice codes for shopping on Paytm Mall.

[Phone Launch] Xiaomi launches its first Android One smartphone named Mi A1

Xiaomi unveiled the Mi A1 earlier today in New Delhi, and the phone marks a shift in strategy for the manufacturer. While all Xiaomi phones thus far have featured MIUI, the Mi A1 offers stock Android. The phone is the first in a new lineup of Android One devices, with Google looking to aggressively target the budget segment in emerging markets. The highlight of the Mi A1 is its dual camera setup at the back with a 12 MP wide-angle and a 12 MP telephoto lens. The 50 mm telephoto lens captures the main image and the wide-angle lens assists with the depth of field measurement, and the two lenses work together to create a bokeh.
